Originally from Dublin, moved to Manchester 8 months ago after living in London for 5 years. I'm a software developer and a mother of 2 little boys (3 and 1). I studied computer science at UCD in Dublin, finished my BSc in 2009 and MSc in 2010, with a thesis focusing on a data science topic. I've been working in development roles since 2012, I started with a small scientific software start-up in Dublin (Creme), then worked in Inmarsat in London for 5 years before moving here.
Definitely the people! The team are great, everyone is really helpful and our collective nerdiness is indulged. We have put together a team that works really well together and has a good understanding of how to get the best out of what we have. We do definitely have fun at work, but we work hard too.
I enjoy getting to work on a relatively large Python project with relatively varied pieces of work involved. One thing I definitely like about working in a smaller company is that my input across the system is valued - I'm not just stuck in one tiny area but get to do a bit of everything.
I love to run - I'm running the Manchester and London marathons in April and am a regular runner and volunteer at the various south Manchester parkruns. It gives me a mental break after a busy day and puts a smile on my face! I also love to cook, I love to try new recipes at home and to try and veggie'ify the classics. I'm also a bit of a craft beer nerd.
Be enthusiastic, open and willing to learn - the best way to get used to any new system is to get your hands dirty with it!
